tA popular brand of the mix between combat knives and fighting knives is that of the Gerber Knife Company. They produce many tactical combat knives, and are so popular and famous for their quality that they have appeared in many famous movies and novels. The most important thing to consider when choosing these knives is to decide which type of locking mechanism you want on your blade. It is important to have a locking system for your blade, especially on these types of knives, due to the fact that with no lock, the blade is extremely dangerous. The last thing any person needs when out in the woods or wilderness, hunting, fishing, or simply trying to survive, is a serious cut from a sharp knife blade. There are two categories of locking folders, lockbacks and linerlocks.
A lockback system does exactly what its name claims. As the blade opens a pivot latchs into place on the back of the blade, holding it open. In order to close the blade you must press a button on the side in order to raise the pivot so the knife can be carefully folded away. The method by which the linerlocks work is a little bit more complicated. When the knife is opened there is a steel or titanium side piece of the knife set into the liner, which locks into place where the folded knife blade was, holding the blade open. In order to close this knife you must push that liner out of the way to release the blade to fold back into the handle.
While these tactical folding knives may not be as effective as Gerber combat knives in the wilderness, or as instantaneous as some
