The Boker knife company has one of the longest traced histories in the world of knives. The original beginning of Boker knives traces back to roughly the early 1800's in Remscheid, Germany. Even back in this time the product produced must have been of great quality because it was in high demand with records from the factory showing production at approximately 2,000 units per week. The company continued to grow and expand, with eventually a branch splitting off into the USA and even into the Mexico area, and Solingen, Germany. To this day, Boker continues to produce a wide assortment of high quality knives for collectors and sportsmen alike with an unsurpassed assortment of blade types, materials, and handles, similar to the popularity of Smith and Wesson knives.
Buck Knives offers an Assisted Opening knife that is often considered to be the best in one-hand opening knives. The mechanism employs a liner lock to hold the blade open, but it's when the blade is opening that the mechanism kicks in to help make the blade complete the opening process, and then locks into place. The closing process is similar. Buck declares their ASAP technology to be safer than fully automatic, or switchblade knives, because of its two step opening action, where the blade does not fully open until already partially open. This is compared to a fully automatic knife which opens on a spring mechanism released from a fully closed position. As always, these knives can be considered illegal to own or purchase in many areas. Before purchasing any automatic Buck knife or other discount knives check your local restrictions and regulations. You as a consumer are fully responsible for researching any laws regarding your purchase.
